Total Knee Replacement Home Exercise Program
TKA Home Exercises
A home exercise program (HEP) is designed to be performed by a patient without instruction in order to enhance recovery and progress outside of physical therapy visits. Performing these exercises are a great way to warm-up your knee and leg muscles in preparation for your daily X10 sessions. The exercises in the initial HEP focus on early range of motion and initiation of muscle strengthening.
Your PT/PTA team will help you to know when you are ready to progress to the Standing Exercises HEP and Intermediate Exercises/Stretches. These exercises will reinforce what you learn in PT, improve your standing balance, as well as help prepare you to transition to independently managing your ongoing strength and flexibility in the weeks following surgery.
